Downloading OpenOffice

Downloading OpenOffice sounds like a simple thing, however for some users not used to navigating on the internet, where we should click is not always obvious. These instructions are current as at this date, and while it is not mentioned in the information below, I do encourage you to Donate to the OpenOffice project to ensure that it is viable and continues to grow and develop.

  1. Go to www.openoffice.org
  2. You will see something like the following site:
  3. To download in English, click on “Get openoffice.org”
  4. If you wish to obtain OpenOffice in another language, click on “native language” on the left hand side.
  5. You will then have the option of downloading OpenOffice from the site, ordering a CD, or obtaining a copy via P2P download. For this explanation we are looking to download from the OpenOffice website, so click on the top lin: “Download OpenOffice.org”
  6. You then have the opportunity of selecting the version that will install on your operating system. Click on the appropriate option.
  7. On the next screen it is encouraged that you donate. Scroll to the bottom of this screen.
  8. Click on “continue to download”
  9. A box will appear asking you to save the file. Click on ‘ok’ or ’save file’ (depending on your browser), and save the file to your hard drive. Remember where you saved it as we will be using it to install the program later.
