I get really tired of fiddling with Avery Label templates in OpenOffice, and now there is a great resource that has it all done for you.

For those that need their docs on the go, but are not keep to go mainstream, then this may be an option for you.

Check the Javascript and Java requirements for browser compatibility (especially Linux users), but it seems like a very viable option!

Customising OpenOffice to play with Word

This is some reading that I found recently that makes it easier for OpenOffice and Word to exchange files a little more seamlessly. This has become more important as I am consulting in an environment that is a strict MS user - and being able to have documents that open seamlessly in the MS Word applications is probably the trickiest aspect of being an OpenOffice user.

It suggests that you tweak a number of default options with regards to saving and use of VBA, as well as other compatibility settings. I hope that it assists with some of your issues.

Make sure Word, OpenOffice.org Writer play well together

I used to insert a landscape style page in a document of portrait style pages and then re-continue using portrait pages. How can I do it in open office?

There are a number of ways to do this, usually involving setting your own page formats. One quick and simple solution is described below.

FAQ: How do I set criteria for the COUNTIF Function?

The easiest way to do this is to use inverted commas with the statement to be tested against within the inverted commas.

The syntax is: COUNTIF(range; criteria)

The range is the range of the cells that you want to count (B2 to B21 in the screen shot provided).

The criteria is the requirement the range is to be tested against in order to be counted (if the requirement tested is true) . This is the “>=35″ in the screen shot.

Don’t forget to include the inverted commas “” or otherwise you will get an error.

Template: Date Planning

I was asked to put this template (link below) to assist in planning for multiple tasks or sessions that might be happening over a period of time, and the conditions that I had to conform to were as follows:

Fit a period of 3 months on a single page
Enter in the start date and all other dates are calculated
Daily slots (a space for each day)
Be able to plan for two tasks (or subjects) on the same timeline

The link below was a simple planner that we settled on.

Please let me know if you find this useful, or have any amendments or suggestions that you think would make this better.

Surprisingly, it works well in meetings as it can be printed out and used for planning dates on a timeline.
